Remember Global Warming?

Photobucket

There was the Fall of Communism later followed by the Gulf War and then the bursting of the Dot-com Bubble which was eclipsed by 9/11 followed by the Iraq War and then the Boxing Day Tsunami followed by the exclamation point of the United States Housing Bubble Disaster and the crushing domino effect of the Global Financial Debt Crisis exacerbated by the Obamamania debacle and then came the Arab Revolution

Missing something? Remember Global Warming?

Global Warming became the sweetheart of the ivory tower elitists, her smoky eyes, raspy voice and hot temper seductively snaring supposed intellectuals. They then sold the Global Warming Kool-Aid to the media and the airwaves were heating up over melting ice caps and drowning polar bears, the wealth redistribution program of the Kyoto Protocol, the daft idea of carbon offsets and of course the toxicity of emissions which were all the rage. All of this emphasised by the media darling messianic Al Gore.

Do you see the ebb and flow of events? The tide comes and the tide goes and another wave crashes upon the beach of humanity, sea levels rise and fall, it has always been thus. However as the world has flattened, mass media is…well…more massive, along with this the globe spanning internet access (another historical touchstone) has enabled people to communicate on an unprecedented vast scale almost instantly. There are less parts of the world cut off from others around the globe and the population is growing so various peoples are struggling for a piece of the pie (this is because many people want to take a piece of other peoples pies instead of baking their own).

Global Warming came under fire as the evidence could not nail down the concepts conflations. There were arguments about what was natural and what was manmade (never woman made as men are the evil ones here). Thus a desperate measure was ventured as a remarketing ploy; Global Warming was now Climate Change…Remember Obama selling hope and change?

This shell game was played with smoke and mirrors and an interesting thing happened…the movement lost a lot of its steam…the wave went out and others crashed upon the beach…

Does that mean that Climate Change had become less important or that it had become less popular? The concept of change itself is inevitable and unavoidable; it is simply a matter of what we do with the change, sink or swim…or better…surf.

Could it be that Climate Change as a theory has become so successful that the battle is largely over even if it is not correct? Thus measures are being taken to minimize the impact upon the environment and it is no longer worthy of headlines rather like aircraft landing safely?

How frequently are we changed by current events that become historical events that merge seductively into society indelibly changing it yet to be forgotten?

Currently change is so speedy and plush in breadth and depth that an individual can simply not keep up, even organizations and governments cannot cope with the sheer scale. What does this tell us about our global community and its future?

It seems many people are consumed with consuming, being entertained or blotting out their memories with little or no concern for the larger picture. Does that mean the populous is easier to herd like sheep? Or could it be that all this information and access is emancipating and the global population is becoming more like a herd of cats?

I suggest one thing…when the next wave hits watch how long you can keep your eyes on it…

Hey LSus,

Indeed, with so much going on the environmental global warming seems to have been relegated to a second (if not third) place.

I still remember global warming whenever I see African villages suffering from its effects; whenever I see African people having troubles with feeding their families because the raining season didn't occur, and therefore no crops. And this is just an example.

Many scientists say that global warming is nothing but a political scheme; for in truth it is a natural process of adaption. From what I heard, the earth has already experienced this kind of warming, when there wasn't half the people we have today and half the technology existent in our days - it made sense to me.
Nevertheless, it is still good to respect nature.

As far as I am concerned, President Obama delivered change (even if not the kind some people were expecting).

"Does that mean that Climate Change had become less important or that it had become less popular?"

None of the above. It simply means that the business has moved on.

"It seems many people are consumed with consuming, being entertained or blotting out their memories with little or no concern for the larger picture"

So true.

"Princess of provocation"
